In a half day you could...

Cross the bay from our centre, you will probably take between 15 and 25 minutes at a gentle pace, though you could do it faster. That would take you to S'Aranalet. The only access to this beach is by sea. Here is an ideal place to take the snorkel masks that come provided with the kayaks and take in the marine life. It is an ideal spot, within the North Minorca Marine Reserve, only a few metres deep. Next to the shore you could see starfish, octopus and numerous species of fish in the clear waters.

After a break on the beach and something to drink we would paddle south and up a long winding inlet until we finally arrive at Cabra Salada. Only 15m by 8m the beach is so called for the fresh water spring where goats come to drink. Because the spring opens just under the sea's surface it appears that the goats are drinking seawater - hene the name of the bay: "Salty Goat". It is very secluded spot.

Continuing South for another 10-20 minutes we reach an area with 3 untouched beaches. Two of these have woodland behind them and the third a natural lawn. These are all good places to stop for a break or another snorkel. It will be the last oportunity for snorkelling because further south there is very little depth. Only kayaks can navigate these areas.

Nearby is the Isla de Sargantana (Lizard Island). It gets this name from the unique species of lizard (not dangerous) found only on the island.

Having rounded the Island you will need another 15-25 minutes to return to the kayak centre, where you will be able to rest, take a shower, and tell us of your adventures!

In a full day you could...

In addition to the half day suggestions you could continue past the Isla de Sargantana. Without going too fast, and with regular breaks, you will be able to take in the more inaccessible parts of the bay.

You will pass the Isla de los Porros, a tiny island only 10m by 10m populated by cactii and fig plants. To the left is the shack where "Pepe el Malo" has lived for many years. He is a hermit who lives from what he can fish, with his dogs for company. His is also the ideal spot to see the boats that get washed up when the strong winter 'Tramontana' wind blows.

We are the only craft that can navigate up Cala Roja (so called for the red sand) which is long but very shallow. At the end we are greeted by yet another change in the landscape.

And then, after another break and a drink, keeping the rocky coast to our left - slightly deeper water takes us to my favourite area in the bay: Cala Blanca. Here you will find white rocks that emerge from the sea forming sculpture-like forms. These are an ideal stopping place before turning home.
